The Mikado is the most frequently performed of the Savoy Operas and was set in Japan to allow W.S Gilbert to satirise British politics and institutions more freely by disguising them as Japanese. Thus for our 40th Anniversary production of The Mikado the Chesterfield Gilbert and Sullivan Society thought it would be a novel idea to bring The Mikado into the 21st Century and to Japan Street, London as thanks to our more open-minded Society we are able to satirise the current political issues without having to disguise our true intentions! We were also proud to invite two former Youth Academy members to perform as part of our cast and hope their love of Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas will inspire the younger generation to get involved with the Chesterfield Gilbert and Sullivan Society!
